Synopsis:184,000 South Carolinians served in World War II. Thousands more moved here after the war. The series South Carolinians in World War II tells the story of the war through the eyes of these veterans, in their own words. Episode six, The Rising Sun, focuses on the early days of the war in the Pacific, from Pearl Harbor through the battle for Guadalcanal and Gen. Douglas MacArthurís return to the Philippines. The film also features South Carolina Marines and their training on Parris Island and Navy veteransí life at sea.
